MI RB Austin White has committed to the Michigan Wolverines, according to the premium recruiting sites. White, who hails from Livonia Stevenson, is one of the top prospects from the Great Lakes State. White weighs in at 6-0, 186lbs, and has been timed at 4.44 in the 40-yard dash.

Recruiting Notes
The commitment of White completes the in-state switcheroo between Michigan State and the Wolverines, which saw Nick Hill commit to the Spartans. Coming into the recruiting season, Hill had been considered a strong Michigan lean, while White has serious family ties in East Lansing and was expected to end up there. However, as the recruitments got underway, White became more and more interested in the Wolverines. Throughout the spring, he started leaning towards Michigan, and enjoyed his visit for Michigan’s summer camp. Last week, he announced a press conference for today, at which he made his college choice. He selected Michigan, and becomes the Wolverines’ 16th commit in the class.

Player Notes
Scout is a bit higher on Austin than Rivals, ranking him as a 4-star prospect and the #17 RB in the class (Rivals has him at 3 stars and #32). He has good vision, quick feet, and surprising abilty to catch the ball out of the backfield for a high school prospect. He’s an upright runner who needs to get lower to avoid injury, though adding bulk in the weight room will help in that regard as well. White may not be coming in strictly as a running back, however. This summer, he played in the defensive backfield in 7-on-7 competitions, where he reportedly impressed. If he doesn’t foresee immediate playing time on offense, he may opt to try his hand on the other side of the ball.

Though he had previously been committed to the Stanford Cardinal, GBW’s front page is reporting that OH DB Courtney Avery has dropped his Stanford pledge and committed to the Michigan Wolverines. The cornerback out of Lexington, Ohio stands 5-10, 165. He is Michigan’s 15th pledge in the class of 2010.

Recruiting Notes
Avery was on the 2010 Recruiting Board when it debuted, though it was as a dual-threat QB. However, Michigan never seemed to be in strong pursuit of the two-way player. He committed to Stanford in early April, and I removed him from the board. Avery was not quite done with his recruitment yet, though. He visited Michigan this week for summer camp, where he was one of the more impressive players in attendance. When he left, the Michigan coaches let him know that he would receive a Michigan offer. Shortly after that, Avery changed his mind from the Cardinal to the Wolverines, pledging to the Michigan staff.

Player Notes
As mentioned above, Avery is a quarterback for his high school team, in addition to his duties in the defensive backfield. In fact, he is a rather excellent high school signal-caller, and was named his conference’s Offensive Player of the Year as a junior. However, when he gets to Michigan, he will play strictly defensive back, where he tried out in summer camp. He has good hip fluidity and agility, which help him make up for a slight lack in top-end speed. One of the biggest knocks on Avery is his size: he’s listed anywhere from 5-8 to 5-10, which is small even for a cornerback. However, he is rumored to be up to nearly 5-11 now, which not only indicates that’s he’s made up some of the height disparity, but also that he may continue growing. By the time he hits campus, he could be as tall as 6-1. Camp offers are typically a time to say “throw out the rankings” (NR on Rivals, 3* to Scout), since the coaches have been able to evaluate a prospect in the flesh.

GBW and TheWolverine are both reporting on their front pages that South Carolina QB/Athlete Cornelius Jones has pledged his word to become a Michigan Wolverine. Jones hails from Spartanburg HS in Spartanburg, SC, and is Michigan’s 14th public commitment in the class of 2010. The signal-caller stands 6-2 and 190 pounds.

Recruiting Notes
Aside from the obvious prospects like Devin Gardner, Jones was one of the first players to enter Michigan fans’ collective radar for the class of 2010. Despite not playing football his freshman or sophomore year, apparently due to a disciplinary issue (or problem with the previous coaching staff; it’s never really been cleared up, Jones’s highlight tape from a spring scrimmage found its way into the hands of Michigan’s coaching staff. Rich Rodriguez and company liked what they saw, and extended a verbal offer (which the Detroit media, in full anti-Rodriguez mode at the time, spun to indicate that Rod was clueless or something). As it turned out, the offer did not come through at that time, but Michigan offered him in January, and was still among his first offers. It was that early interest that helped Michigan stay in the forefront of his recruitment, as the Wolverines led wire-to-wire. Jones always maintained that he was trying to work out a visit to Michigan, and that visit eventually ended up taking place for the Wolverines’ 2009 summer camp. At that time, he realized Ann Arbor was the place for him, and he committed to don the maize-and-blue.

Player Notes
Jones is a dual-threat quarterback in the same mold as Devin Gardner, who can really hurt you with his feet, and has some improving to do in the passing game (certainly understandable for a high school junior). Jones isn’t quite the physical specimen that Garnder is, but might be a slightly better passer at this time. That’s an exciting prospect for Michigan fans, as he’s only played football (and quarterback) for one year thus far! With further coaching at both the high school and college levels, he should blossom into a true threat in both phases of the game.

Pennsylvania Linebacker/Defensive End Ken Wilkins, from Washington Trinity High School, has pledged his word to become a member of Michigan’s class of 2010. Wilkins stands 6-4 and 235 pounds, and is the Wolverines’ 13th verbal pledge in the class.

Recruiting Notes
Ohio State, Penn State, and Notre Dame may have seemed like the early favorites in the race for Wilkins’ services, as each team boasts one of his ex-teammates (Andrew Sweat, Mike Yancich, and now-Cleveland Brown Travis Thomas). However, he grew up liking Michigan, and by the time a Wolverine offer came through, Michigan and Pitt were in his top 2. Other schools, such as Penn State, Ohio State, UVa, and others were all in pursuit, but when Wilkins made it to campus for the Big House BBQ, he saw all that he needed to see in order to confirm what he had been feeling for quite some time: he belonged in Maize and Blue.

Player Notes
Though recovering turnovers on defense is mostly a luck proposition, Wilkins sure knows what to do with the ball once it’s in his hands: he scored 2 defensive touchdowns last season. He was named first-team all-state at defensive end. One thing that may be holding back his rankings a bit is the fact that he’s something of a tweener: Scout lists Wilkins as a 3-star defensive end, and Rivals has him ranked as a 3-star outside linebacker. It seems as though he’ll play mostly linebacker in college, though at Michigan he’ll have the hybrid role available to him. The low rankings certainly aren’t due to lack of exposure: on top of his all-state selection as a junior, he’s been attending the Pittsburgh Scout combine since his freshman year.

The Michigan Wolverines have added their 12th commitment of the class of 2010, according to both premium sites. OH OL Christian Pace (6-3, 260, 5.7) has pledged his word to become a Michigan Wolverine in February. Pace is the first offensive lineman to commit in the class.

Recruiting Notes
Michigan fans have known about Pace for quite some time, as he was among the earlier offensive linemen offered post-signing day. He received an offer in early April, and almost immediately hit campus for the Wolverines’ spring game. Though he spoke effusively about his trip to Ann Arbor, a visit to Northwestern “wowed” him, so fans weren’t sure how sincere his interest in Michigan was. A return trip to the University of Michigan, however, sealed the deal. He went home without committing, but the premium sites mentioned that his timetable might accelerate considerably. Accelerate it did, and he phoned Rich Rodriguez today to share the good word.

Player Notes
Pace is currently a little undersized for an offensive lineman, at just 260 pounds. However, he has a big frame, and will be able to pack on enough muscle to compete well at the college level. He is likely to be an interior line prospect with his height limiting his ability to play on the outside. Pace is very aggressive and nasty with his blocks, and shows an ability to get to the second level of defenders. His strength and technique are pretty good for a high school player, especially one with the low weight that he currently carries. When he teams up with Barwis upon arriving in Ann Arbor, he could be converted into a beast. One big knock on Pace is his pass protection. His high school apparently has a predominantly running scheme, and he’ll have to improve in protection. Pace is a 3-star prospect to both recruiting services.

GoBlueWolverine is reporting that PA DE/LB Jordan Paskorz has pledged his word to become a Michigan Wolverine. Paskorz stands 6-4, 225 pounds, and hails from Hampton High School in Alliison Park, Pennsylvania. He is the 11th commitment in Michigan’s class of 2010.

Recruiting Notes
Paskorz has always been a slightly under-the-radar type, but Sam Webb reported on WTKA a few weeks ago that the Wolverines had offered, and Jordan was favoring Michigan. Paskorz’s older brother, Steve, is a linebacker for Notre Dame, but that didn’t prevent Jordan from making the right choice and picking Michigan. He made the official commitment today in Ann Arbor, where he was unofficially visiting. He had always planned to commit before his senior season, but most Michigan fans were surprised that he committed to the Wolverines this early. He picked the Maize-and-Blue over West Virginia and Pittsburgh.

Player Notes
Paskorz is something of a tweener, and he could likely play either defensive end or linebacker in college, though a reported 40-yard dash time of 4.9 might mean he’s destined for the defensive line. Both Scout and Rivals list him as a 3-star defensive end prospect, though Rivals does point out that he’s a weakside – or pass-rushing – DE. In order to play defensive end in college, he’ll almost certainly have to add some weight by the time he eventually hits the field. Despite not that much mass, he is indeed a strong football player, excelling in the shotput in high school track and field. With Michigan adding a pair of defensive ends in the class of 2009, Jordan will hopefully be able top redshirt to add strength and technique to his game. Recruiting guru Jim Stefani actually has Paskorz ranked the #2 tight end in the class of 2010, behind only IL TE CJ Fiedorowicz.

Scout is reporting that LA Slot/Ath Drew Dileo has committed to Michigan for the class of 2010. Of course, they cite that “The Baton Rouge Newspaper” broke the news, without linking to said newspaper. Commitment article on the 5-11, 175-lber from Parkview Baptist School can be found here.

Recruiting Notes
Michigan is in on a number of slot receivers, and news about Dileo was not generally more positive than on any of the other players they were pursuing. However, when The Advocate broke the news of his commitment today, it was not shoicking, as Dileo had been rumored to be favoring Michigan (if slightly) for quite some time. He committed today, but without having seen the campus. Until he manages to get in a visit to Ann Arbor, remain a little wary about his commitment sticking, DeQuinta Jones-style. He’s probably not quite that soft, but it’s tough to be firmly committed sight-unseen.

Player Notes
Dileo is a wideout/running back/db for his small Baptist school (still a powerhouse – he was the MVP of their state championship team as a sophomore in 2007), but will likely play in the slot at Michigan. Many Wolverine fans may see “5-11, 175-lb white kid” and immediately think Sam McGuffie, and perhaps a less freaky-fast version of the departed McGuffie may be a good comparison. However, if Dileo is able to start his career in the slot, rather than at running back where McGuffie took hit after hit for most of last year, he’ll hopefully be ably to stay a bit more healthy.

Video
It’s uber-brief, but you can see Dileo’s notable flea-flicker reception (

He had 182 all-purpose yards in the 18-17 victory over Westlake, including a 34-yard reception on a flea-flicker to set up the winning score.

)in the 2007 state title game early in this video.

I’ll be the first to admit this commit took me a little bit by surprise. More subtantive information on Dileo in the coming days.

The rising junior won’t enroll until the fall of 2010, but is already Michigan’s ninth verbal in the class. Robinson, from Lake Region High School, measures 6-2, 190, with a 40-yard dash in the 4.5 range.

Recruiting Notes
Marvin Robinson grew up a fan of Michigan, with USC being another favorite. He visited the Wolverines for their 2007 summer camp, where he was the most impressive defensive back despite only entering his sophomore year. At that time, he was offered a scholarship by the coaching staff of Lloyd Carr. That scholarship offer was reiterated by Rich Rodriguez in the spring of 2008. In June, he was unable to attend Michigan’s summer camp, but visited Ann Arbor shortly thereafter. On his visit, Marvin enjoyed himself so thoroughly that he made plans for a return trip to Ann Arbor, to attend the Michigan State game with his friend Ricardo Miller. Robinson received his official offer on the first day that junior prospects may be offered. When Miller accepted an offer to Michigan on September 29th, it was just another feather in the caps of Michigan. However, it took Marvin quite some time to jump at the offer (despite early indications that he might commit last fall). When he came to Ann Arbor for Michigan’s Spring Game, he was blown away by the atmosphere, and started itching to pull the trigger. Within a few days, he could resist the urge no longer, and gave a verbal commitment to the Wolverines.

Player Notes
Robinson is a big, physically impressive safety. Under the Lloyd Carr regime, he may have been bulked up and moved to linebacker (where he excelled at the Football University camp in Orlando last summer), but new Michigan will likely try to allow him to stay at safety, unless he goes through a growth spurt. They probably like him as more of a Taylor Mays-type player than, say, a Tavares Gooden doppelganger. Robinson is considered one of the top prospects in the nation at safety in 2010, and would be a good candidate for 5-star status if he wasn’t something of a tweener, and if he hadn’t been considered a lock to Michigan for so long (though he has been dominant enough at combines that he may still garner that status). It is particularly impressive that he was the best safety at Michigan’s summer camp in 2007 – though he was only entering his sophomore season. Early offers from powers such as USC and Florida also speak to his talent, and likely had something to do with his delay in committing to Michigan.

Now With Information!

After the Spring Game yesterday, running back Stephen Hopkins of Flower Mound, Texas and Marcus High School, committed to Rich Rodriguez and the University of Michigan football program. Hopkins is the team’s 8th commit in the class of 2010, and measures in at 6-0, 220lbs with a 40-yard dash time of 4.6.

Recruiting Notes
Hopkins came to the attention of Michigan fans in early March, when the Michigan coaches seemingly went around offering every talented big back they could get their hands on, including such prospects as Dietrich Riley, Mack Brown, and of course Hopkins. He said all the right things to the Michigan recruiting sites over the course of his recruitment, indicating that the Wolverines were squarely in the thick of his recruitment, if not leading for his services at all times. He made plans to visit for the Michigan Spring Game, and when he reached Ann Arbor, he was blown away by the atmosphere (I reckon it was the MGoFiasco that sent him over the edge), and committed to Coach Rod after the game. It is unclear if the staff is in the market for another big back in the class, though they’d likely take a super like Marcus Lattimore if the opportunity arose.

Player Notes
As mentioned above, Hopkins is a big back, who runs with power between the tackles, but also has goods speed to run past defenders. He is cut from a similar mold as Brandon Minor, and with his high school’s Scarlet-and-Gray uniforms, his video even looks a bit like Beanie Wells. He runs through defenders, and is rarely brought down by the first guy. On top of his physical attributes, he also shows good vision in his highlight video (imagine that!), not hesitating to use a cutback lane if his first read isn’t available. He shows good balance, though not elite. His high school team seems to run primarily from the I-set, so he may need a year of learning to play in the spread. His junior year, he ran 275 times for 1689 yards (6.14 ypc) and 22 touchdowns. He also caught 11 passes for 81s yards (7.36 ypc). The leading receiver on his team is a TE named “Rhett Butler,” which is very humorous.

Drake is a little guy (5-8, 160) and could end up at either RB or slot.

Recruiting Notes
Drake’s recruitment moved quickly, to say the least. Most Michigan fans hadn’t heard of him before today. However, Rich Rodriguez and company had, and after evaluating his film, they offered Drake, who accepted almost immediately.

Player Notes
As mentioned above, Drake is a little guy (listed anywhere between 5-6 and 5-9), and with his skill set and size, he could excel as either a quarkback or a slot receiver in the Michigan offense. His measurables call to mind Jeremy Gallon, though Gallon was more proven at the time of his commitment last year, having been a multi-year starter at QB for Apopka, whereas Drake has been on the bench for Skyline, behind James White (3* Iowa State commit in the class of 2009), and second-leading rusher QB Chris Frazier (a 2* who signed with SMU). He finished the year with 429 yards on 55 carries (7.8 ypc) and 3 touchdowns. Receiving, he had 7 receptions for 73 yards (10.4 ypc).

Etc.
Drake is a high school teammate of Scout/Rivals 4* LB Corey Nelson. Though he hasn’t shown the Wolverines much interest yet, Drake’s commitment might help them get their foot in the door with Nelson.

Ohio Linebacker Antonio Kinard, a 6-4 210lb player from Youngstown Liberty High School, has given his word to become a Michigan. Wolverine. Kinard actually committed Friday, but (free) news about his commitment didn’t come out until late yesterday. He can be considered either the 5th or 6th commitment in the class.

Recruiting Notes
Kinard’s interest in Michigan, and theirs in him, can be easily determined: He’s the younger teammate of 2009 Wolverine signees Fitzgerald Toussaint and Isaiah Bell. However, Michigan fans weren’t really aware of him until even later than that. When Varsity Blue scouted a Youngstown Liberty game in October, we were almost entirely unaware of Kinard, and didn’t focus any attention on him. We did notice a standout linebacker (though we thought at the time it was 2009 linebacker Julius Ferrell), which ended up being Kinard. The Michigan staff, of course, was more diligent in their scouting, and were able to offer Kinard in January. He didn’t take long to accept, giving Michigan his verbal pledge on Junior Day.

Player Notes
Kinard is a tall linebacker with good athleticism. Though we we were unaware of him as a prospect when we scouted the Liberty game (though he did bust a 50-plus yard touchdown from the fullback position), He, Bell, and Toussaint were by far the most physically impressive in terms of appearance. Much of Kinard’s responsibility in high school was playing the run and rushing the passer, so those are the areas in which he excels. However, with his quickness, he should be able to learn to play the pass very well in addition to the other two. He is still a small-ish guy, so he’ll need to add strength in order to play at the college level. He has a tall frame, and may even be able to add enough weight to play a hybrid OLB/DE position, known as the “spinner” in Greg Robinson’s schemes.

Ohio WR/Athlete DJ Williamson has pledged his word to sign with the Michigan Wolverines in the Class of 2010. Williamson, who hails from Warren Harding High School (the alma mater of Mario Manningham, among other former Wolverines), measures in at 6-1, 172lbs, and has been clocked in the 4.4 range in the 40-yard dash.

Recruiting Notes
Though Warren Harding High School is constantly fighting the reputation that its players and coaches hate Ohio State, there’s no denying that they may have a certain affinity for Michigan. Thanks to successful Wolverines who have hailed from Warren, like Carl Diggs, Prescott Burgess, and Mario Manningham, DJ Williamson was one of those Michigan Wolverines fans. When Rich Rodriguez sent word to Harding High just over a week ago that he was interested in offering DJ, it was a dream come true. However, a commitment didn’t come immediately. First, Williamson made his way up to Ann Arbor for the Michigan Junior Day, where he met with the coaches, and decided that he did indeed want to wear the winged helmet. He became the 4th commitment in Michigan’s class of 2010.

Player Notes
Though Michigan fans may say “ANOTHER receiver?!?,” my inner Lee Corso says “Not So Fast, My Friend.” Like fellow Ohioan Jerald Robinson, Williamson is a very versatile player. He has the skill set to play either on the outside or in the slot, and could even find an eventual home on the defensive side of the ball. Combine that with the fact that Jeremy Jackson may have the potential to move to pass-catching tight end down the road, and the logjam doesn’t look quite so bad. Williamson has very good change of direction skills, nice speed (10.82 100m), and good height (though he’ll likely need to add some bulk to be ready to play at the next level). He also has the ability to be a good return man in the near future.

According to Rivals and Scout, Devin Gardner, a dual-threat quarterback from the class of 2010, has pledged his word to become a Michigan Wolverine. Gardner hails from Inkster High School, and measures 6-4, 200, with a 4.50 second 40-yard dash.

Recruiting Notes
Gardner appeared on Michigan fans’ radar in the summer of 2008, when he transferred from UD Jesuit to Inkster. He performed at Michigan’s 2008 summer camp as both a quarterback and a wide receiver. The staff liked him at both positions, and offered him as a QB shortly after the Rich Rodriguez 7-on-7 competition. Though Gardner had grown up a Buckeyes fan, he remained open to any school that gave him interest. Give them interest he did, as schools from LSU to Michigan to West Virginia mailed the dual-threat QB official offers. When the Buckeyes told him he wasn’t their top choice in January, he abruptly removed Ohio State from his list, and many speculated that Michigan would take over the top spot. Gardner made his meta-announcement early last week shortly before he took an unofficial to Michigan’s Day. his actual announcement came today, when he picked out the maize-and-blue hat.

Player Notes
Gardner is a big mobile QB in the Vince Young/Terrelle Pryor mold. In fact, he is often described as “The (Vince Young OR Terrelle Pryor) of the Class of 2010.” He runs like a deer, and has exceptionally quick feet, which he uses to escape pursuers. His throwing mechanics need a lot of work, as he has a low/sidearm release, much like that of Vince Young. Through all his current shortcomings as a player, it is important to remember that he is only a high school Junior, and it will be at least a year and a half before he hits FieldTurf: he has plenty of time to work on them (and poor mechanics didn’t seem to hurt Vince Young that much, either). On top of the tangible skills that can be quantified or easily observed, many talent evaluators have branded him with having that indescribable “it factor.” In his junior season, Devin threw for 1,886 yards, 28 touchdowns (several of them to class of ‘09 Michigan commit Cameron Gordon), and 7 interceptions. He ran for 1,401 yards and 22 touchdowns. As previously mentioned, he is a bit raw, but will receive plenty of coaching when he gets to Ann Arbor. Gardner will likely be the more highly-rated quarterback in Michigan’s class of 2010, so he will likely hit the field as a freshman.

Robinson stands 6-2 190-lbs, and has been clocked at 4.55 in the 40-yard dash. He hails from Canton South High School in Canton, Ohio.

Player Notes
When Michigan offered Robinson last week, many Michigan fans were (understandably) perplexed. With commitments from two outside wideouts already in the class of 2010, why keep going after them, especially this early in the process? However, one of Robinson’s key traits is his versatility to play many positions. Once he gets to the college level, he could play wide receiver or safety, and considering he’s still just a high school junior, he could even add more weight and play linebacker. Certainly the Michigan staff had a plan in order when they offered him, and they aren’t just loading up at one position. He was an area all-star:

Robinson led South in receiving yards and receiving touchdowns this year and was second in receptions. The junior standout caught 34 passes for 756 yards and seven touchdowns. Five of his seven touchdown catches were 20 yards or longer, including an 86-yarder and a 56-yarder.

Robinson also recorded 56 tackles in the defensive backfield and led the team in interceptions with seven.

in addition to being named first team all-state.

Recruiting Notes
I first became aware of Robinson when Jim Stefani mentioned him on his spectacular underclassmen recruiting blog as a prospect of interest for Michigan. In the run-up to Signing Day 2009, he wasn’t mentioned much, as the focus was on completing this year’s class. However, after the ‘09 class was inked, Rodriguez and Co. almost immediately sent Robinson an offer (his first D-1 scholarship). After coming home from an Ohio State visit with only his Michigan offer in hand, it didn’t take long for Jerald to jump on it, and he told just about anyone who would listen yesterday that he would be committing today. A commitment is expected to come to fruition, and he will be the 3rd commit in Michigan’s recruiting class of 2010.

On National Signing Day, dual-threat quarterback Denard Robinson signed on the line to become a Michigan Wolverine. Robinson stands 6-0, 190, and has been clocked in the 40-yard dash at 4.38 seconds. Robinson became the 21st commit in the class of 2009.

Recruiting Notes
Following the decommitments of Kevin Newsome and Shavodrick Beaver, recruiting a second quarterback for the class of 2009 became a priority for the Wolverines. Several prospects became options, including Raymond Cotton, Tajh Boyd, and one Denard Robinson. Robinson immediately got the full-court press from Michigan, who knew they had a tough compeition for Robinson’s signature, going mostly against the home-state Florida Gators. Florida and Michigan were the only two of Robinson’s offers that offered him the opportunity to be a signal-caller at the next level. Robinson took his official visit to Michigan the January 9th recruiting weekend, along with his teammate, corner Adrian Witty. Within a couple weeks, he knew that he wanted to play in the Rich Rodriguez spread offense, but held off on announcing a decision until Signing Day. At his 11AM press conference at his high school, Robinson gave a fake-out by showing up in a Florida Gators hat. However, when he announced his actual intentions, he picked the Michigan Wolverines.

Player Notes
Robinson is a definite dual-threat quarterback, and has speed and moves that Wolverine fans haven’t seen from the quarterback position in ages. He is not only accomplished as a runner, but he can really throw the ball, as well. Robinson has a strong arm, and with some coaching at the next level, could become a very good passer. He has been compared to Rich’s former WVU quarterback, Pat White. The one major knock on Denard Robinson (at least as far the the QB position goes) is size. He is (generously?) listed at just 6 feet tall. One advantage Robinson has over other QB prospects is the ability to switch positions. If playing quarterback doesn’t pan out (i.e. if he gets beaten out by Tate Forcier and/or other QBs down the road), he will be able to switch positions.

On Signing Day, Florida cornerback Adrian Witty of Deerfield Beach pledged his word to become a Michigan Wolverine. Witty, who stands 5-9 ans 175 pounds, was Michigan’s 20th commit of the 2009 recruiting class, and the 7th from the Sunshine State. His name is also often spelled “Whitty,” in case you’re one to scour the internets for information of your own.

Recruiting Notes
Michigan’s recruitment of Adrian Witty picked up pace rapidly through a matter of circumstance. Following the decommitment of Shavodrick Beaver, the Wolverines needed to add a second quarterback to the class of 2009. The best option available was Deerfield Beach quarterback Denard Robinson, a good friend and high school teammate of Witty. The Michigan coaching staff immediately starting recruiting both prospects heavily, as Witty himself plays a position of need for the class. The two came on a visit to Ann Arbor together for the January 9th recruiting weekend, and enjoyed themselves despite the snowy atmosphere. On the contrary, they actually partook in a snowball fight with various members of the coaching staff, and a good time was had by all. Witty was offered by the Wolverines on the visit. He also had offers from Kansas State and Florida International, and was picking up steam with a Florida recruitment (likely because the Gators also wanted an in with Robinson). However, a Florida offer never materialized, and on Signing Day, Witty went with the Wolverines.

Player Notes
The only other offers for Witty being KSU and FIU is evidence of why he was a lesser-regarded prospect. He missed his entire junior year with an ACL injury, and didn’t get fully healthy during his senior year. If healthy, Witty likely would have been a much more highly-regarded player. He is a smallish corner with good speed (described to be as fast as Robinson prior to the knee injury), and may be a good complement to the taller Justin Turner as the class’s other corner. Witty garnered a 2-star rating from Scout and Rivals. Even if his guru rankings prove to be accurate, he is certainly worth taking if only to assist with Denard Robinson’s recruitment.

In the hustle and bustle of the world’s most stressful LiveBlog, I didn’t have time to put up commitment posts of Michigan’s three newest commits. Here’s Je’Ron Stokes, Michigan’s final commit (thus far) of the class. Adrian Witty and Denard Robinson in the days to come.

Je’Ron Stokes, a wide receiver from Philadelphia Northeast High School, has pledged his intentions to become a Michigan Wolverine. Stokes is a 6-1, 180-lber with enough speed to be a legitimate deep threat from the split end position. He is Michigan’s 22nd commitment of the 2009 recruiting season.

Recruiting Notes
Very early in the recruiting process, Stokes made it clear that he coveted a Michigan offer, and if he were to receive one, the Wolverines would be right in his top group of schools. Eventually, Stokes received that offer – just days after he had committed to the Tennessee Volunteers. Stokes cited his relationship with the Tennessee coaches as one of the deciding factors in his commitment, though if he had waited just a little while longer for that offer to come through, he may not have committed to Tennessee at all. Of course, when Phil Fulmer was fired, that naturally gave Je’Ron a little pause regarding his commitment to the Volunteers. He backed down from his commitment, especially after new coach Lane Kiffin encouraged both 2009 QB commits to explore their other options. Stokes took his Michigan took advantage of his newly “soft” status, and invited Je’Ron to campus for the January 16th recruiting weekend. The recruits took in the Michigan basketball loss against Ohio State Saturday night. Leading up to Signing Day, there was alternating optimism and pessimism on Stokes from the Michigan side of things. When he announced his decision on CSNPhilly.com at 3:00, however, Michigan was his choice.

Player Notes
Je’Ron Stokes is a four-star receiver to both recruiting sites, and garners a rating of 82 from ESPN (high four-star). Stokes is a very speedy player, and has an ability to stretch the field for his offense. He has decent speed at about 6-1, though he will need to put on some weight to avoid injury in college, as he currently only weighs around 180 pounds. Stokes displays good hands, but at his current size, he likely isn’t going to show them off by making tough catches in traffic over the middle. He participated in the Army All-American Bowl, where he made a couple grabs.

Etc.
Je’Ron’s younger brother, Malik, is a 2010 prospect as a dual-threat QB. He is likely to end up in the high three-star/low four-star range, and may be a good complement to a more highly-rated player like Devin Gardner.
