Recruiting Update 5-2-08

The Board. One formatting note: I changed players’ names to links, so if you want to see previous updates involving a particular player, just click on his name in the main board. Soon I will remove a lot of prospects whom I don’t see mutual Michigan interest with.

Moved to committed:
Shavodrick Beaver. Commitment article from local paper.

Added:
FL RB Jaamal Berry. He has a Michigan offer, though rumors say I should be ready to remove him soon because he will commit to the Bucks.

New Information:
MN WR Fritz Rock. He has apparently had his Minnesota offer pulled. He is a candidate for removal in the not-so-distant future.
SC DE Chris Bonds plans to take a Michigan official visit, and will decide around Christmas. He is also Adam Patterson’s HS teammate, which I guess might be obvious, but I hadn’t realized until just now.
OH OL Chris Freeman. He is still wide open, and will visit LSU this month.
MI WR Cameron Gordon. Fluff.

Removed:
A bunch of QB recruits who aren’t guys that Michigan would likely take as the third guy in a class, and didn’t have offers yet (and would be unlikely to move to other positions).
FL QB Eugene Smith
IN QB Morgan Newton
IN QB Jordan Luallen
MS QB Clayton Moore
TX QB Kolby Gray
IL QB Darwin Rogers
MO RB Ronnie Wingo. No mention of mutual interest in any articles.
Dangerously close to removing MI TE Reid Fragel, who Michigan only wants at OT, and apparently wants to stay at TE.

Etc.:
Nice Rivals video piece on the QB commits. Freep article on same. Also from Rivals: article on Nike camp, featuring lots of UM recruits.

Recruiting Update 4-7-08

Since a flurry of updates over the past couple weeks, it’s been 5 days since the last recruiting update. Once everything settles down a bit more (i.e. no commitments), I plan to probably do 2 updates a week. The collaborative board with MGoBlog is still in the works; I’ll give an update to you when I know more about it. For all the info, make sure you visit the recruiting board. I may be adding an all-star game field to the board soon, so readers will know which Michigan prospects are headed to the Army game or the ESPNU game.

Added:
MD RB Tavon Austin. He now sports a Michigan offer.
SC QB Stephon Gilmore. He has been offered by Michigan.
FL S Jonathan Scott. He has reportedly been offered by Michigan.
MD CB Travis Hawkins. Reporting a Michigan offer.
(The last two pieces of information come from Scout articles, but the information itself is apparent from the headlines).

New Information:
SC DE Chris Bonds will officially visit Michigan.
FL WR Nu’Keese Richardson video.
AZ DE Devon Kennard fluff.
OK RB David Oku. Has a Brightcove video diary. Entry 1. Entry 2.
IL OL Chris Watt’s older brother Kevin plays for Northwestern.
IN QB Jordan Luallen has GT as his favorite (premium article, but the info is in the headline).

Removed:
PA WR Je’Ron Stokes. He has committed to Tennessee.
TX S Craig Loston has officially narrowed his choices down to Clemson and LSU.

Recruiting Update 3-17-08

Since yesterday’s update was a little half-assed (I was still feeling the effects of my St. Patrick’s Day celebration, to be honest with you), I’ll give a little more substantive update today.

The Board.

Added:
NC RB Desmond Scott. Jim Stefani notes that he would be a good fit for RR’s spread offense.
MN WR Bryce McNeal. He has been offered by Michigan.
UT OL Xavier Sua’filo. He seems like a top prospect, and has stated that he is interested in Michigan.

Removed:
VA QB Tajh Boyd. This means Virginia Tech will be more likely to pursue Kevin Newsome even harder, making it difficult for Michigan to land him.

New Information:

MS WR Dennis Thames has been offered by Michigan.
SC DE Chris Bonds has been offered.
TN WR Marlon Brown won’t decide until after signing day.
OH OL Chris Freeman plans to attend several spring practices.

Recruiting Update 2-26

Update courtesy of an apparent commitment of a key target to a rival school.

Added:
PA S E.J. Banks. From Christian Wilson’s high school, he is and Ohio State target.
KY DE Trevor Foy. He attended multiple Michigan games in the fall.
Removed:
MI LB Chris Norman. No longer including recruits committed elsewhere without promising info.
Edwin Baker if he commits to State.

New Info:
MI RB Edwin Baker is apparently committing to Michigan State tomorrow, depending on how much weight you put in this random blog post. If he does, I’ll drop him without a new post.
PA RB Jordan Hall visited OSU with Terrelle Pryor recently, and it is likely Pryor’s decision could influence Hall’s.
MI OL Zach Matthias was first-team all conference as a Junior.
SC DE Chris Bonds lists Michigan in his top 5.
OH CB Tony Graham plans to camp at Michigan.
OH CB Damien Thigpen actually prefers the RB position, but will play where needed in college.

Commentary:
If the Edwin Baker commitment happens, they will have a hell of a start to their class (for State).

Recruiting Update 2-22-08

One last recruiting update before I head off to a land of indeterminate internet access known as “spring break.” Over the next week, I’ll post if I have access, but otherwise I plan on having Paul go back and post the highlights (read: lowlights) from the home basketball games so far.

Anyway, the board. LSU junior day information courtesy of Bayou Bengal Blog.

Added:
TX RB Jazsman Mitchell. A little guy who will probably end up a slot WR if he comes to Michigan.
TX RB Hasan Lipscomb. Included because of the impact he may have on Russell Shepard. The two are high school teammates and friends who are both going to LSU’s junior day this weekend. Lipscomb grew up as a fan of the Bayou Bengals.
LA DT Chris Davenport. Top DT who is attending LSU’s junior day this weekend.
SC DE Chris Bonds. Michigan is in his top 5.

Removed:
TX DE Mike Brockers. Committed to LSU.

New information:
TX QB Russell Shepard. He is attending LSU’s junior day this weekend. His current girlfriend goes to LSU (not sure why he needs to date someone two years older than him, but I digress). They are considered in his top 3 along with Texas and Michigan.
FL QB Eugene Smith. His dad attended Miami of Florida. Various sources have him listed as a pro-style quarterback, despite his 4.65 dash time.
MS QB Clayton Moore. He is a pass-run or pro-style QB rather than run-pass. A second team All-State selection as a junior. He may enroll early at the school of his choice. He is also a baseball propect who may opt to play minor leagues instead.
PA WR Todd Thomas. He now reports a Michigan offer.
MI WR James Jackson. His offer from Lloyd Carr’s staff has been reaffirmed.
MS WR Dennis Thames. First team All-state selection as a junior.
NC OL Xavier Nixon. He is a nimble center for his basketball team. Has relevance to his foot quickness.
MS DT Josh Boyd. 2nd team All-state as a junior.
MS LB David Conner. First team All-state as a junior.
NC S Devonte Holloman. Wants to trim his list to 5 by summer. HS QB.
TX S Craig Loston. Michigan is in his top 5.
